Are you trying to figure out which faucets have soft water in your home? In newer homes, softeners are generally installed to treat all water and fixtures. In older homes, the kitchen sink, outdoor spigots and cold water faucets were often left off the softener loop. Let's go through this together and we'll get this figured out in no time.
Before You Start
- Go ahead and turn off all faucets and outdoor spigots. Pause any appliances (dishwasher, washing machine, ice maker) that are currently using water.
- Confirm your softener's bypass handle on the back of the unit is pulled OUT (not pushed in).

1. On your softener display screen, hold the Program/Select button until the screen shows '000'. This is your water flow meter.
2. The '000' on the screen shouldn't be counting. If it is, there's still water being used somewhere in the home.
3. Open a cold-water faucet close to your water softener. Then come back to the softener and watch the screen. Are the numbers counting?
- YES - the numbers are counting, which means that the water at that faucet is running through the softener.
- NO - the numbers aren't counting. This means the water coming from the open faucet is NOT softened.
4. Repeat this process with any faucets, spigots, or shower heads that you'd like to check. Be sure to turn off the previous faucet before testing another one.
5. That's it! When you are finished testing, remember to take care of any appliances that you had paused before the test.
