How do I determine which faucets are being softened?

In newer homes, softeners are generally installed to treat all water and fixtures. In older homes, the kitchen sink, outdoor spigots and cold water faucets were often left off the softener loop. 

Preparation

Turn off all faucets and outdoor spigots. Pause any appliances (dishwasher, washing machine, ice maker) that are currently using water. 

Confirm your softener's bypass handle is pulled OUT to the side (not pushed in). 

Viewing the Diagnostics

1. On your softener display screen, hold the Select button until the screen shows '000'. This is your water flow meter. 

2. The '000' on the screen should not be counting. If it is, there is still water being used somewhere in the home. 

3. Open a cold-water faucet close to your water softener. Come back to the softener and watch the screen. 

    a. If the '000' numbers are counting, the water at that faucet is running through the softener.

    b. If the '000' numbers do not change, the water coming from the faucet is NOT softened. 

4. Repeat this process with any faucets, spigots, or shower heads you'd like to check. Be sure to turn off the previous faucet before testing another one. 

5. When you are finished testing, rememeber to take care of any applicances you pause before the test.
