If your control screen is blank or non-responsive, follow the instructions below to determine the best fix.
1. Remove the top cover:
a. On the back of the unit, unhook the two clips that hold the cover onto the tank below (Figure 1). Flex/pull the cover out and away from the softener at these clips.
b. There are two similar clips holding the front of the cover on as well. Slide the cover towards you to release these clips, being careful not to disconnect any wires. (Figure 2). It is normal for the plastic cover to produce some noise as it shifts and bends.
2. Locate the control board on the underside of the cover. Depending on your model, the the board may be hidded by a plastic cover. If so, squeeze both sides of the cover to remove it.
3. Find where the power supply wires connect to the board. These are two black wires with red plastic adaptors. Confirm the adaptors are fully pushed in. Confirm the transformer is plugged into the wall outlet, and that the outlet is not connected to a light switch in the room. Check the wire harness (red plastic piece with 5 colored wires) and ensure it is fully pushed in. Next you'll check the motor. Follow the red and black wires leading from the control board to the motor and separate the white plastic connectors and then piece them back together.
4. The control board is connected to the top cover by a tab on each corner. Starting with one side, flex the gray tabs back on each corner to free the board (pictured).
5. With the board in your hands, look at the screen. Push the colored prongs that correspond to each button (pictured below). Feel free to push down, side to side, and wiggle the prongs to see if they respond.
a. If the button prongs respond, the board was most likely just seated too far away from the lid, or the power supply wasn't fully attached. Reattach the board, making sure it is snug against the lid. Reattach the top cover.
b. If the buttons still do not respond, or if you notice any physical damage, we recommend replacing the Control Board and the Power Supply. We recommend replacing both because a faulty board or power supply can sometimes result in damage to the other. If you are still under warranty, Contact Us for warranty info. Otherwise, replacement parts can be purchased here.
