The Motorized Water Shutoff Valve is an optional addition to model RHW42. Below is a quick guide to installing the shutoff valve onto your home plumbing. Refer to your Motorized Water Shutoff Valve manual (linked below) for instructions on operating the valve.

Installing the Valve
1. You'll need to install your Motorized Shutoff Valve upstream of the softener inlet (pictured below). The shutoff can be installed further upstream than what's shown here, but the valve has a 10-foot cord that will need to be connected to the softener’s control board.
Tip: Support the shutoff valve's weight while connecting its 1” female threads to your plumbing.
2. After installing the valve, you'll want to confirm your softener is not plugged into the power outlet.
3. You'll need to plug the cable from the shutoff valve into the back of your softener’s control board. The cable connects to a white plastic terminal on the board's bottom right-hand side. For details on accessing the control board, click here.
CAUTION: Do not place fingers inside the shutoff when it's plugged into the control board.
4. Now you can plug your softener into the power outlet and move on to the next sections below on how to use the valve with the app and how to operate it manually.
Using the iQua App
The valve is controlled remotely with the iQua app. If you don't already have the iQua app, you'll need to download it and create an account.
Once you're logged into the iQua app, navigate to the bottom of the main dashboard (pictured below). The Water Control toggle button allows you to open and close the motorized valve by tapping the 'Water On' or 'Water Off' button. It's as simple as that!
Note: If the Water Control button is faded or does not seem to be connected, visit our Shutoff Troubleshooting article for help.
If you ever receive an alert for continuous water flow, this is where you'll want to come to close the valve. The system default for triggering a continuous water flow alert is 20 minutes of flow at 0.4 gallons per minute or higher. You can adjust this setting in the 'Alerts' section of the iQua app if you prefer.
Manual Operation
You can manually operate the shutoff valve by pulling out on the knob (pictured) and turning until the valve indicator is either open or closed. You should be aware that if you manually operate the valve, the app’s Water Control feature will be disabled until you reset it by tapping ‘Yes’ when prompted to ‘Regain Control?’.
Note: Your water softener may still mechanically cycle through a regeneration (with no water) while the shutoff valve is closed. This doesn't harm the softener.
