Programming your system correctly is an essential step to ensuring you recieve filtered water. This article is a concise version of the basic Programming Instructions found in your manual. For information on your extra customizing options, visit our Optional Settings article.
Set the Current Time
To set the current time, press the Select button until you see 'Set Time', with the clock flashing (pictured below). Press (or hold) the Up/Down arrows to set the current time in your area. Double check the AM/PM on the right side of the screen.
Set the Water Hardness
Press the Select button to advance to the 'Set Hardness' screen. The hardness of your incoming water depends on your geographical location, so there is not an 'average' or 'normal' number for this setting. To calculate your specific number, use our Hardness Worksheet. Then, use the Up/Down arrows here to set the correct value:
Set the Recharge Time
Press the Select button to advance to the 'Recharge Time' screen. Your softener's recharge schedule will fluctuate based on your household's water use. Recharge cycles last about two hours, and usually happen once a week or so, on average. Make sure to set your recharge time during a period when your household is likely not using water.
Set the Salt Type
Press the Select button to advance to the 'Set Salt' screen. NaCl (Sodium Chloride) is the most common type of water softening salt. If you have sodium dietary restrictions, KCl (Potassium Chloride) is a good alternative option. Make sure to change the salt type if you use this alternative.
You can visit our Salt Type article for more information about different salt compositions and types.
Set the Salt Level
Depending on your model, you'll use either the 'Select' button or the 'Set Salt Button' to match the level on the screen to the number the salt reaches in your tank. Please visit our Salt Level Programming article for more in-depth instruction.

I just installed my new Rheem water softener 3 weeks ago and I had to set the time to the correct time 3 time already. Why is this happening?
There hasn't been any power outage or unplugged the transformer from the outlet
Cesar,
This is often due to the incorrect Timezone selected on your iQua app. We have fixed this on your account.
Thank you!
Thanks so much, it's working now
Where in the app is the timezone set? I am having the same issue even though the device was unable to be set up.
Update - Was able to connect my device finally. Seems to resolve the time issue but I will monitor.
Thank you for the update Brian! If needed, you can adjust your timezone setting under Settings > Device Management > Display Units > Time Zone.
I installed my softner in place of a sears unit, used previous hook-ups, unit seems to recharge every night and water not soft what should i look for?
David,
We'll want to check your programming and make sure water is passing through the system correctly. A ticket has been opened for us to further communicate on your issue.
How do i tell how many gallons have passed through my Rheem RHS42 softener?
It goes months before it regenerates.
Thank you for your question! Water usage history is not posted in the programming. The best tool to use is the calculation found in our How many gallons of water are used between recharge cycles? or How often does my softener recharge?
