Is your drain hose constantly draining water? It could be a few different things. Follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue.
Let's check your display screen.
1. Have you seen an error code on the screen?
a. YES; Visit our Error Code article.
b. NO; Continue to step 2.
2. Unplug the power supply from the wall and bypass the water softener by pushing the handle in on the back of your unit. This will stop water from coming in or out of the softener while you work:
3. Plug the power supply back in. Make sure the clock numbers on your screen are solid. If they are flashing, press the Select/Program button until they come back solid.
Now let's check to make sure your valve head isn't stuck.
We're going to do a dry recharge. A dry recharge means we will advance through a recharge cycle while your unit is still bypassed.
1. Hold the Recharge button until the motor starts to turn, then let go. (about 3 seconds). 'Recharging' or 'Recharge Now' should be flashing on your screen.
2. Push the Recharge button one time quickly. The motor should spin again, moving into the next cycle.
*If the motor does not spin, visit our Error Code article.
3. Repeat step 2 each time the motor stops, until the 'Recharge' indicator on your screen disappears.
4. Take the softener out of bypass (by pulling it out) and check the drain hose for continuous leaking. If there is, your Valve Head needs replacement. If you are still under warranty, Contact Us . Otherwise, replacement parts can be purchased here.
Did this fix your issue?
a. YES; Great!
b. NO; We recommend checking your water pressure. Use your owner's manual to find the water pressure requirements and then check out the article How to Test Incoming Water Pressure.

It doesn't say what's next if after performing this check if it didn't leak before, or after. My brand new water softener recharged/drained for 8.5 hours constantly!

I am having the same problems with a brand new system installed in a new home under construction. The drain line runs constantly.

I installed a brand new RHW42 a few weeks ago, and the top drain has been trickling nonstop since I installed it. I stepped it through the above "Constant Draining" procedure three separate times. It seemed to reduce the rate of the trickle the first time, with no noticeable difference the second or third time. It's still trickling water. Please advise what I should do now?
Perry - It sounds like your softener is still draining after following the steps above. If that is the case, please contact us via phone or use the 'submit a request' button at the top of the page to message an agent directly.
My drain line is constantly draining all the time. Went through all the steps for the excess water in salt tank as well since that was an issue as well.

My Rheem is less than 4 months old. Had this happen twice already. Following the above steps, I got the constant draining to stop.
But as soon as I took the unit out of bypass and started another manual recharge (and hitting recharge after each step and waiting for the motor to stop turning), it went back to constant draining. When on the last phase, "Rinse", it SOUNDS like the motor turns, the water turns off, but then the motor keeps turning and the water turns back on again.
I've reset it for now so it's no longer constantly draining but I'm very concerned about the next overnight recharge.
