Are you having trouble connecting or staying connected to WiFi? That can be a pain, but don't worry, we're here to help! Let's review a few common issues to check for first, then we'll work on steps for reconnecting. These instructions apply only to Rheem Preferred Platinum model RHW42.
Click each step below to expand directions.
Step 1 - Check for Common Issues
1. First, you'll want to make sure Location Services and Bluetooth are both turned on or 'enabled' in your mobile device settings. To enable Bluetooth:
iPhone: Settings > iQua™ > Bluetooth ON
Android: Connections > Bluetooth ON
2. Confirm your mobile device is connected to the same wireless network you have selected in the iQua™ app.
3. Ensure your wireless network is using the 2.4 GHz WiFi band. The 5 GHz band is not supported.
4. Check the wireless signal strength on your mobile device. If you're seeing only 1 or 2 bars when near the softener, your WiFi signal may not be strong enough. In this case, you'll want to move your wireless router closer to the softener, or consider installing a WiFi extender.
There are a handful of things that could cause wireless signal interference: cordless phones, baby monitors, remote controlled toys, microwave ovens, seasonal lighting, or even garage door openers. Temporarily shut these devices off while you're trying to fix this issue.
Structure materials in walls, floors, and furnishings may also cause interference:
Interference Potential - Type of Material
- Low - Synthetic material, wood, glass
- Medium - Brick, marble, water
- High - Concrete, plaster
- Very High - Metal
5. Once you've checked each of the items above, click Step 2 for instructions on connecting your softener to WiFi.
Step 2 - Connecting to WiFi
1. First, you'll need to unplug your wireless router and water softener.
2. Then go ahead and plug both of them back in.
3. Now, turn your mobile device off and then back on.
4. Once it's back on, open up the iQua™ app.
5. In the app, go to the home screen and tap the '+' icon to start connecting.
Note: If your softener already appears on the home screen, don't worry - adding it again will simply reconnect to it, not duplicate it.
6. On your softener, press and hold the Up and Down buttons together for three seconds, then let go when 'Conn' appears in the display.
7. In the app, select the serial number that appears in the list of Available Device(s).
8. Then, find your home WiFi network and enter in the password.
You'll see the display change from "Conn" to C-1, C-2, and C-3 at various points during the connection process:
9. You'll need to create a nickname for your softener, then tap 'Complete Setup'.
The softener should return to displaying the clock. If everything is connected but 'Conn' or one of the 'C' codes still appears, press the Select button or unplug it and replug it back in.
