We recommend refraining from water use if possible.
During a recharge cycle, your softener bypasses itself from your home, meaning any water you use during that time will be unsoftened. Washing a dish or flushing a toilet are okay, but you'll want to stay away from bathing or washing laundry during this time to reduce the risk of hardness minerals sneaking into your plumbing or water heater.

When is the bypass valve in correct position for normal operation
The bypass valve is in the normal service flow position when the handle is pulled out, away from the plumbing.
