Preparing your Softener Before Vacation

If you softener will be left in an environment that could drop below freezing, please follow our Winterizing instructions.

If you plan to be away from the softener for an extended period of time without the fear of below freezing temperatures, we just advise bypassing and unplugging your unit for safety. See the full instructions below. 

Bypass

You can bypass your unit by pushing IN on the bypass handle (see photo on left), or you can use the valves on your home plumbing, if present (see photo on right).

       

Disconnect

We recommend disconnecting the power supply from your unit to prevent recharging while you are away. Be sure to note down your settings in case the control board requires some reprogramming upon arrival.

Return

Upon your return, reconnect your softener and program if necessary. Take the system out of bypass and run a recharge. Depending on how long the unit was idle for (i.e. weeks, months), we recommend putting the softener through a sanitation cycle.
