Why can't my softener be installed BEFORE the pressure tank?

If your home’s water is supplied by a private well, your water softener should always be installed downstream of the pressure tank. We explain a few reasons why in the article below. 

1. The unit will not receive a steady, adequate water supply, because water will be flowing through it only when the well pump is running.
2. During regeneration, water could enter the unit backwards through its valve outlet port leading to the pressure tank.
3. Additionally, there is a risk that if the filtration system becomes clogged, it could lead to the well pump short-cycling and potentially burning out.
