Water softener cleansers come in two forms - liquid or powder. You may be interested in using a powder cleanser in your water softener. There may be instructions for the powder cleanser on the bag or bottle that it comes in and this is okay, but we do have strong recommendations on how to use it so that your softener is not harmed during the process. Let's go through some of those below!
Before You Start
- The instructions on the cleaner may suggest spreading the powder form of cleanser directly on the salt. We do NOT recommend this. Spreading the powder throughout the salt allows it to degas and corrode any exposed metal.
- Remember to not use any form of bleach sanitizer in conjunction with a powder cleanser, as it can release harmful gases. Note: City chlorinated water does not have enough chlorine to create this issue and should be safe to use any form of cleaner.
Instructions
1. When you're ready to begin using your cleaner, you'll need to dissolve the powder in x amount of water (follow instructions on packaging).
2. Next, you'll then add that mixture into the brine well (black tubing with numbering 1-8 on it). Getting access to brine well may look different depending on your unit. If you have a cover over it, remove that and then pour the mixture in. If the brine well does not have a cover but an area with holes at the top, you'll pour it in there.
3. Once your cleanser is in, you'll need to regenerate the unit right away and then run an additional recharge again later that night.
- To regenerate your unit immediately: On the screen you'll push the 'Recharge' button and hold it down until you hear the motor begin to turn on. Now, you can let it run through each cycle. It should last about 2-2.5 hours. Do this step later again at night.
