Sometimes, a water softener needs to be installed in a spot where there's no nearby floor or sink drain. A common question in these situations is, "Can I use a pump to move the water to a proper drain?"
If you're thinking about using a pump, you'll need to check with the pump manufacturer to make sure it can handle the job. Here are a few things to consider:
- Our water softeners can release up to 40-50 gallons of water with a maximum flow rate of 2 gallons per minute (depending on the model). Can the pump keep up with this amount of water?
- Is the pump okay with handling water that might have a lot of salt and minerals in it?
Please keep in mind that using a pump does come with some risks. For example, if the softener accidentally drains for longer than expected, like during a long power outage, it could cause a flood or damage the pump.
