Occasionally, a softener has to be installed in a location that has no nearby floor or sink drain. A common question in these scenarios is "Can I use a pump to move water to a suitable drain location?"
In this case, you will need contact the pump manufacturer and check the following capabilities:
- Our softeners can discharge up to 40-50 gallons of water, and has a max flow of 2 gpm (depending on the model). Can the pump keep up with this volume of water?
- Is there any issue with the pump taking water with potentially high salt and mineral content?
Please Note: There is some risk involved when routing to a pump. If the softener drains continuously for longer than expected – for example, in the event of an extended power outage – this could result in a flood and/or burn out the pump.
