Every Rheem® Preferred™ Series Water Softener comes standard with built-in Rheem® Learning Technology. This smart technology learns your water usage patterns to optimize salt and water consumption and provide on-demand soft water for your home. But how does it work and why does it matter to you? Read on.
The Benefits of Rheem® Learning Technology
You want your water softener to achieve the greatest water and salt efficiency as possible. And everytime a water softener regenerates - essentially a self-cleaning process so it can continue to soften new water as needed - it uses salt and water which is flushed down the drain, creating waste. Other softening systems will regenerate on a timed schedule, whether they need to or not, creating more, often unnecessary waste. Rheem® Learning Technology helps lessen this waste by learning your distinctive, home water use patterns and only regenerates when it needs to.
For example, Friday night comes along and your water softener has learned that Saturday is a higher water-use day. It knows that more water is required on Saturday, knows how much capacity is left to soften before needing to regenerate, so it regenerates to prepare for that extra use. Conversely, when lighter water use is anticipated it will slow the frequency of regeneration. Let’s say Sunday night arrives and there is not much softening capacity left, but the usage patterns show that not as much water is needed on Monday. It will wait another day, or more, to regenerate when it needs to.
Rheem® Learning Technology Adapts to Your Lifestyle
All you need to do is turn on your Rheem® Preferred™ Series Water Softener and the Learning Technology begins monitoring your water use patterns and adjusts the regeneration process accordingly. It generally takes a week or two to identify your water use patterns. There is no need to program or adjust anything, it just works out of the box. It constantly monitors your water use and adapts to any changes. If you have more water-using guests at home for the holidays, are gone on vacation for a week with no water use, or install a new efficient dishwasher, your softener is aware and re-calibrates itself for maximum efficiency.
How Does Rheem® Learning Technology Learn Your Water Use Patterns?
Rheem® Learning Technology relies on the interaction between onboard software and small flow sensors to gather it’s usage data. These flow sensors are small magnets attached to an internal turbine - located in the water outlet valve. As soft water leaves the system, it flows over the turbine which spins like a fan. When the water stops, the turbine stops. The flow sensor magnets connect with a receiver that counts the revolutions which relays this info to the software. The smart software records this info to determine how much water the softener is using. The water softener is always using new data to re-calibrate as your water usages change over time. It also stores ongoing historical usage data for the lifespan of the water softener. All water usage data can be monitored using the iQua smartphone water management app available for use with the Rheem® Preferred Platinum™ Water Softener.
